Over my career I have facilitated a number of strategy sessions. I am always intrigued how the audience perceive “ a strategy”. So I would like to throw it out there. How would you define “a strategy” and what does it mean to you?
Shirley,
Lot's of definitions, all good. But, a strategy needs to be distilled down to a very simple form. If in your strategy sessions you can ask "What" and "How" and keep incessantly asking them over and over, you'll typically find that what most organizations think is a strategy is in fact a very broad brush plan that is typically multi-faceted or better stated all over the place. Once you can distill the strategy down to a few very simple and concise words (plain English), that comprise one short sentence that anyone can understand - now you have something.
Good Luck,
Peter
